What is blockchain?A blockchain is essentially a digital ledger where encrypted “blocks” of data are stored and “chained” together chronologically by unique identifiers called “hashes” to form a single, unchangeable source for that data. The ledger is stored or distributed across a network of computers rather than on a single server or database controlled by a centralized administrator like a bank or a tech platform, ensuring data integrity and eliminating the need for parties to trust systems to establish security.

What is cryptocurrency?A cryptocurrency (often called crypto) is a digital or virtual currency that doesn’t utilize a regulating authority or centralized system (like a bank or government) to keep it secure. Rather, it uses cryptography, a process of writing and deciphering code, for verifying the currency and keeping it secure. Crypto cannot be counterfeited and it remains traceable from one transaction to the next. Popular cryptos include Bitcoin, Ether, Tether, BNB, XRP, Cardano, Dogecoin, among more than 12,000 others.

Check out this recently updated article by Hart Rodriguez Young:
Our generation is widely recognized as being the first to be exposed to internet technology, social media and other apps, and mobile devices during our entire lives. Blockchain technology is relatively new and, like the internet before it, promises to transform the way we, as a global society, communicate, conduct business, and interact with each other. Gen Zers like to be known as “disrupters” of conventional practices and centralized control over industries such as finance, healthcare, real estate, entertainment, and countless others. It is important that we understand the underlying technology so we can better grow Web3 in a way that advances how we live and interact, and doesn’t simply disrupt it. This article explores those concepts and will, hopefully, inspire other members of Gen Z to learn and innovate in this space.
